[ Phlite Klub ] [ Graupner Terry FMS Model ]
June 1, 2002: Attended the River City RC'ers Air show at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park with Ben. Lots of gas planes, a couple of electrics and a jet turbine or two. Precision aerobatics, combat, and beautifully crafted models. I took many pictures.
March 4, 2002: Great weather utility: THIS THREAD at Ezone (RC Groups) describes a fantastic little Windows program that grabs hourly forecast data for any zip code you enter, and based on criteria that you specify (like max wind speeds, temperature ranges, no rain etc.), will show you which hours are predicted to be good to fly, highlighting good hours in green and bad in red. I'm sure golfers or Frisbee enthusiasts would find it useful, too. Thanks VERY MUCH to the author, "eladyland", an Ezone member.
March 3, 2002: I am gearing up to get back in to electric flight (or ANY flight for that matter, Airfix Dogfighter notwithstanding!) I have gotten some new equipment to get me back in the air, including a hand launched glider called the Zip. I also have acquired a new motor/speed controller for my Terry and should be putting that plane back together shortly. I'm also looking for a true parkflyer (the Terry is a little "too hot" for smallish fields). The Lil Luscomb is looking good to me right now. I'll try to get some pics of the Zip up before long.
News: My airplane is down! No, I didn't crash it - I haven't done that in a long time. The speed controller is apparently fried. I have been too busy to replace it so for now I am grounded. :(
I have wanted to get in to R/C Airplane Flying since I was a kid and I finally did it this year (2001). So far I still only have one plane, a Graupner Terry, but I have flown a few other models thanks to my friends. We fly electric models, instead of gas powered planes. Electric planes are clean, quiet, typically small, easily maintained and stored. Gas planes have their own advantages but we find that electric models suit our needs much better. For instance, since we are flying small, quiet planes, we can pretty much fly them wherever we want to, within reason of course. I am a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) which, among other things, provides liability insurance for R/C modelers. If you don't know why that might be a good idea then you have little imagination.

This is my first attempt at an R/C page and it's pretty sparse right now, I admit. I intend to add more information about the models that my friends and I fly and perhaps related topics such as batteries, chargers, motors, vendors, etc. Speaking of vendors, I have been very pleased with Hobby Lobby so far, and I'd bet that they're pleased with me considering all the money I have given them in the last few months...
Pictures of our R/C exploits are here, and also, many more at phlite.thelocust.org (occasionally not available).
I also have a page with a little bit of information on a free R/C Flight Sim and a Terry model that I made for it.
